Olives and Plates is situated on the unlikely location of Wits West Campus. Stepping into the little courtyard, you can easily forget that you are in the middle of Johannesburg. The restaurant and its surrounds is modelled in Cape Dutch style. The interior décor had plenty of dark wood and not really much else. When the weather is warm enough it is definitely more idyllic to sit outside.
We had the meze platter for two with grilled haloumi, hummus, olives, guacamole salsa, tzatziki, marinated artichokes and pita bread for R135. This looked and tasted delicious with enough food for two on its own. There are plenty of other very reasonable options on the menu for breakfast or lunch. Service was very slow but luckily the food didn’t take long to arrive. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and look forward to trying more of the menu out.
