Marie Claire Modern Muse Event

Marie Claire is definitely one of my favourite magazines for many reasons. I find both the content and themes unique and love the real life stories that are featured. They host amazing events and the editor Aspasia is very accessible to the readers.

Estée Lauder and Marie Claire hosted a very trendy event to celebrate your inner muse. Nine gorgeous and talented South African women were chosen based on the original muses of Greek mythology. These women are Lebo Mashile, Pretty Yende, Jena Dover, Sibongile Sambo, Tumi Morake, Marianne Fassler, Kitty Phetla, Dr Carol Ann Benn and Joanne Joseph. Estée Lauder was the perfect partner for the event as their latest perfume offering is the very aptly named Modern Muse.

The event was held at 3 Desmond Street in Kramerville which boasts a spectacular view of Sandton. The bubbly flowed whilst guests snacked on canapés and ladies also had the option of having their makeup done. I really loved the pretty décor and conceptualization of the space. Bottles of perfume strung with bows provided not only a décor element but a perfume spritzing station as well. I loved how pictures and quotes of the muses were hung up akin to a modern art gallery.

The beautiful girls that form the electric string quartet The Muses entertained the guests. It was overall a great conceptualised event.

We paid R150 for a ticket and enjoyed snacks, drinks and a 6 month magazine subscription. Our goodie bag contained the May issue of Marie Claire, chocolate and a bottle of Modern Muse. I quite like the Modern Muse fragrance. It is quite strong when first sprayed but it has a beautiful sweet scent once the top notes have died down. The bottle feels quite androgynistic. I didn’t realize it at first but the top of the bottle is designed in the shape of a modernized bow. Unlike most perfume bottles where you lift the lid to spray this has no lid. Funnily enough the name of the model for this perfume is Arizona Muse. Yet another muse!

The May issue of Marie Claire has all the details on the muses as well as the inspiration behind the fragrance. Thank you Marie Claire and Estée Lauder for an amazing event. I can’t wait for the next one!
